About Three Lakes Wildlife Area

The Three Lakes Wildlife Area spans approximately 8,500 acres across Oneida and Forest Counties in northern Wisconsin. The area is characterized by wetlands, hardwood and conifer forests, bogs, and numerous small lakes and streams. It was established to protect valuable waterfowl breeding and migration habitats, especially for ducks, geese, and other migratory birds. The area's wetlands and mixed forest environments support populations of white-tailed deer, black bears, bald eagles, and a variety of songbirds, making it a hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts. Historically, the area was used for logging before being managed for conservation and public recreation. Today, it offers access to fishing in lakes stocked with trout and panfish, and seasonal hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, and waterfowl. Trails and interpretive signage provide visitors with opportunities to explore the natural environment, while designated areas allow for canoeing and kayaking on the interconnected lakes and streams. The wildlife area’s ecological diversity attracts photographers, birders, and outdoor adventurers looking for a tranquil experience close to nature. Its proximity to the town of Three Lakes adds convenience for visitors seeking local services and additional recreational activities.
